Braves Baseball Club FAQs

The Braves Baseball Club (BBC), a non-profit 501c3 travel organization, was founded in the fall of 2013 to serve the youth baseball community in the Olentangy High School attendance area.  The goal of the BBC is to increase player development and is intended for players who are seeking a more competitive baseball experience and are prepared to focus more time for practices and games.

Games

  • Tournaments: Travel players compete in 3-5 tournaments throughout the Spring season and will play 12-20 games outside of the Little League schedule.  Most of the tournaments are in the Columbus area, but overnight tournaments are available for the older age groups.
  • Little League Schedule: Travel players must also register for the Olentangy Braves Little League and will play 14-16 games during that season.
  • Little League All-Star Tournament*:  If selected, players have the opportunity to represent the Olentangy Braves in the Little League International tournament.  The tournament starts in early July and concludes with the finals in Williamsport, PA.

*Note that teams are selected by vote based on their performance in Little League.  Travel players are not guaranteed to make the team.

Offseason Training

Travel teams participate in a series of offseason training practices to prepare for the upcoming season.  Outdoor fall practices help the players develop and refine their pitching, hitting and fielding skills.  Indoor practices start in January and will continue until Spring outdoor practices are feasible.

Costs for Travel Baseball

The fees for BBC teams range from $200-400/season, depending on age and the amount of fundraising done by the team.  This includes the cost of travel uniforms, indoor training, tournament fees, team equipment, field overhead and team building.

*Note that players must also register for Olentangy Braves Little League baseball.  Those fees are not included in the number listed above.

Fields

The home field for the Braves Baseball Club is Glen Oak Elementary.  In the Spring of 2015, the BBC received a sizable donation to upgrade the facility and make it a premier playing field.  Improvements include a Batting Cage, Block Dugouts, Outfield Fencing and a Scoreboard.

Coaches

All team managers are volunteers and are selected by the BBC board of directors.  All coaches are required to complete a National Background Check as required by Little League International.
